There Are No Secrets!

Today when I came home from work I went outside to hang with my boys, (wow what a beautiful day it was!) Ben went inside to get ready for work.  Aiden who is just so cute sitting in his chair eating a fudge popcicle says out of no ware, "dad got you a ring!" he smiles ear to ear and while shoving the popicicle in his mouth he mumbles, "it is a circle, with round diamons, it is in his pocket!" So like any crazed jewelry loving woman I ran inside and started fishing in Bens pockets. Ben asked me what I was looking for. I told him what Aiden said. He assured me there were no diamonds and it was no longer in his pocket, and I couldn't have it until Sat. (my 25th birthday) :(

I feel that the most comical part of this whole scenario is that Ben actually thought a 5 year old could keep a secret! (hehehehehe silly dad!)

The Unexpected Moments

So this morning I dropped Gavin off at Kindergaten. normally I am that mom that emabarrasses him infront of his friends by asking for a good bye kiss. I get the roll of the eyes and the quick peck, and then he looks to see if anyone was watching.

So this morning I decided I would spare him and just leave quietly. As I started down the hallway I heard him yelling "mommy! Mom! Mom!" I turned around and he says "kiss?" I then open my arms and he jumps in gives me a big kiss and runs back to class!

It's moments like this that make it all worth it!

What Crazy Sounds Like

Mom and Gavin
(Not fighting over the Statue of Liberty)

So last night as usual Gavin was building his Statue Of Liberty. But unlike usual it kept falling down. for any of you who knows him this is something that he does not take lightly. So from the living room every five or so minutes I hear a crash followed by a yell of frustration. Being human I can only take so much of this pattern.  I eventually go in and try to help. Gavin being Gavin has a very particular vision, and my help was only making his frustration worse. So I told him that we were all done with the blocks and they needed to be put away. He went nuts! Next thing I know he is hitting me in a fit of rage for taking down his beloved broken statue.
Hitting is not something that is accepted in this house so  I drag the reluctant screaming child up stairs. At this point I am yelling and he is crying hysterically. I am trying to get him to stay in his bed for a much needed time out/cool down time. (My sister is on her phone in her bedroom an easy earshot away). Of course Gav wont stay in bed so my yelling turns into screaming, and him being scared of the dark is crying, "I'm scared"
Needless to say who ever my sister was on the phone with probably thought the worst. Imaging hearing a crazed mom screaming, and a crying child sobbing, "I'm scared!" over and over.

From left: Aiden, Jude and Gavin

The never ending question: Who hit who first?

So natuarally boys fight, especially brothers! The biggest problem is when they start their fight out of sight. Tonight I had a very small moment of peace when Jude was happily playing with out me having to be right by his side, and I had sent Gavin and Aiden upsatairs to play so that I could start dinner with out them under toe. I don't think it was quiet longer than 10 mins. when they both came running down the stairs hysterically crying and babbling. There was something about a broken boat, a hurt thumb, a hurt head and both are pointing to the other saying, "he did it first!" (meanwhile dinner is burning!)

So now I am sitting on the stairs half coddling and half questioning while being covered in snot and tears trying to get to the bottom of what actually happened. The conclusion is still unclear. Something about a stolen lego, a ship that resembled the titanic got stomped on, and then there was an all out slap fight. So how do you make this all better? I told them to kiss and make up. I kissed the boo-boos and in a moment of pure fustration and knowing that dinner was ruined I told them that all legos would go in the trash if they fought over them again.
